The Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, has banned its students from wearing “indecent” clothes and tattooing their bodies on campus.
The ban was contained in an internal memo signed by the school’s registrar, Sydney Enyindah, on Friday.
Mr. Enyindah listed items considered indecent on campus, including wearing short skirts, leg chains, gowns with tiny shoulder straps (spaghetti gowns), bum shorts, and blouses that expose the navel (bellybutton) or breasts, and long eyelashes.
Also banned are nose rings, earrings by male students, tinting hair in different colours, tattoos, sagging trousers, torn jeans, and bathroom slippers.
The registrar disclosed that the university’s senate at its meeting on September 29, decided to ban indecent dressing on campus.
“Students are hereby directed to take note and comply accordingly, as enforcement of the directive will begin immediately,” he said.
